Teacher Appreciation time is coming up. Every year, I find myself scrambling for last minute gift ideas for the teachers. My sister-in-law is a school teacher and she has always lamented the amount of sugar-laden sweets she is gifted. For that reason, I like to give my sons’ teachers non-food gifts that will last long after teacher appreciation week. This week will be dedicated to Simple & Inexpensive Last Minute Gift Ideas your teachers will surely love!

Today we’ll start off with a simple DIY project that your children can help create. Decorated Chalkboard Clipboards are a great little DIY gift idea for the teachers in your life (or anyone who uses clipboards.) I plan to give these to my boys’ teachers with a gift card to an office supply store tucked under the clip.

Gather the little munchkins around and let’s get started on these adorable Decorated Chalkboard Clipboards.

Instructions:

Slip a folded emory board (or cardboard wedge) under the clip to hold it open. Use a foam brush to paint the clipboard. After the paint dries, move the emory board and touch up the areas that were missed.

Once the paint is completely dry, decorate the clipboard with washi tape. Wrap the tape around the back of the clipboard. For a cleaner look, overlap the ends of the tape instead of ripping them midway (as shown.)

Add as much washi tape as you like, but leave an area in the center clear.

After the chalkboard paint has dried for 24 hours, rub the side of a piece of chalk onto the chalkboard areas to season the clipboard. Wipe off the chalk with a clean dry cloth.

Sharpen the piece of chalk with the makeup pencil sharpener. Trace your message lightly with the sharpened piece of chalk. Use the small ruler to help create straight lines. Fatten up your letters that you drew. And add a few doodles.

Tuck a gift card or include some pretty stationary in with your chalkboard clipboard.

When you wrap your clipboard, make sure nothing rubs over the message. You could protect the message with a piece of tracing paper. Don’t you just love this gift idea? To make this gift more special, add an easy stand for the clipboard.

I love your clipboard. I wish I had known about chalkboard paint when I was still teaching. (I’m now retired.) I could still use something that pretty!
