Tybee Island – Breeze Inn Cottage Tour

Breeze Inn Cottage - Tybee Island | Pretty Handy Girl

I can’t wait to invite you in to tour this adorable Mermaid Cottage on Tybee Island, GA. Breeze Inn is full of charm, color and antiques. This beach cottage is owned by the fabulous fiction author, Mary Kay Andrews. Decorating and furnishing this cottage was a labor of love for Mary Kay. In fact, she told me that many of the things that you see in the cottage were collected for years before she owned Breeze Inn! Check out this Breeze Inn Cottage Tour – we love it!

Mary Kay was sweet enough to let me tour and photograph her cottage. Won’t you come on in and join me?!

Right inside the door is a one-of-a-kind decoupaged dresser with fun fish decorating the drawers! And I am crushing on the amazing shell framed mirror over it. The plank walls add that perfect relaxed coastal feel to this little house.

You enter directly into the cozy and comfortable living room. The dining room is part of the open front room of the cottage. I can imagine playing games at the table with the kids, while keeping up with conversations happening on the couch.

Just off the dining room is the kitchen. The sherbet green walls are fun and funky…

…especially when paired with vintage signs!

At the back of the cottage is this fun and quirky room. A daybed may seem like an odd choice in this multi-purpose room with a washer and dryer. But, honestly I’d love to nod off and nap here while being lulled by the sounds of the wash tumbling dry. (True tale: I used to love to lay on top of the dryer as a little girl and nap. The warmth and the smell of fresh laundry will always bring a smile to my face.)

Opposite of the daybed is this amazingly intricate hall tree. Have you ever seen one this beautiful?

Next to the hall tree is the door leading to the screen porch. I wish I had a better photo of the vintage pink fridge. Just imagine sitting out there with the sea breezes blowing as you sip cool sweet tea.

The stairway leading to the bedrooms is no less decorated than the rest of the house. Framed vintage bathing suits and old beach photos adorn the walls.

This twin bed filled room makes me think a gaggle of cousins would have a blast staying up and talking all night.

The patriotic red, white and blue theme is classic and fits in with the nautical inspired pillows.

The red dresser fits in nicely with this twin bed room.

The master bedroom suite, is crisp and cool with a fresh blue and white palette.

Part of the suite is Mary Kay’s writing desk. I love the old phone and typewriter!

I had to show you a quick peek at the bathrooms in Breeze Inn. They all have vintage touches.

Like this antique mirror:

Or the vintage beach pails on the shelf:

But, my favorite is this old dresser converted into a vanity. Mary Kay’s lucky it is secured to the wall because I was tempted to bring it home with me ;-).

Mary Kay sure likes vibrant colors, what a beautiful home. Especially loving the hall tree, and like you I wish I could have seen more of the vintage pink fridge. I would love to visit and see for myself…I might be inspired to write that book I always promised myself I would do one day..

MarY Kay Andrews is one of my ALL TIME favorite authors! The first book I ever read by her was Savannah Blues, which bears the same name! As soon as I saw this blog, I knew EXACTLY who it was! I am from St. Simon’s oiriginally, but live in Michigan now. I did, however, drag my sweet husband down to Savannah to get married. My mom and sister still live there.

I would LOVE to win a weekend down there! *swoon* and to stay in that cottage? Maybe it would inspire my own hidden writer, as she seems to have disappeared around the same time I decided to have a blog myself. 🙂

This is such a beautiful cottage!! The colors and decor scream Tybee Island!! I’ve only been to Tybee Island once, when I was young. But I remember it well.. I remember collecting sand dollars to make crafts with, it was one of my fondest childhood vacations! Thanks for bringing me back in time! 🙂
