Boy's Red, White & Blue Themed Room | Pretty Handy Girl

Happy Friday!!! I finally finished my son’s room makeover. Poor kid has been asking for over two years when I was going to work on his room.

It feels so good to be done and be able to share the final reveal with you. The theme started four years ago when I converted his extra closet into a reading nook. The blue, white and red work beautifully together.

When Grammy made the gorgeous red, white and blue star quilt, the theme was set in stone! A quilt that beautiful deserves to have an entire room built around it! The additional bedding was purchased at IKEA.

The rest of the room just fell into place. Existing furniture got a quick makeover with some paint and garden spigot knobs.

I also added new furniture by creating a wall-mounted desk.

I also built my son’s loft bed to give him more floor space in his room.

I made the decision to put the ladder at the foot of the bed to maximize the space in his room.

The mirrored locker hides most of his stuffed animals neatly inside.

One of my son’s favorite spots is on this convertible bean bag chair where he likes to open it up and lounge while reading. I bought it from Overstock.com. I picked up the lantern at the Lowe’s in Hampstead, NC. I haven’t seen it at our local Lowe’s so I’m not sure if it’s a regional item.

Remember the cute little storage tub bench I made? It fits in nicely with the color scheme…

…and provides more hidden storage.

My son has so many spots to plunk down and read. I love that he’s my little bookworm.

This has been such a change from his room before. It’s truly amazing what you can do when you have a little more time, some paint and wallpaper!

I hope you enjoyed the tour of my son’s red, white and blue room. It doesn’t stay this neat normally, but now that he has ample storage, it’s easy to clean up quickly.

I’m hoping this makeover will last him well into his teenage years. And I hope I survive the teenage years! Any tips for me on dealing with a teenage boy? At least I have five more years. Wait…my oldest will be a teen in three years. Gulp.

Looks great! My son loves his loft bed. He has a tiny, tiny room, so it maximizes a lot of space.

But you know the room isn’t going to stay that clean, right? 😉

So cute! Red, white and blue is my favorite! What color is the wall paint? I’ve been wanting to repaint my son’s room, but I always have trouble picking the right color.

Love the room, and am also thrilled to see the Chronicles of Narnia on the shelf. My favorite set of books for children and adults! I hope he loves them, too.

Everything about this room is just so wonderful. What a lucky little boy you have! I’m still planning on getting that mirrored cabinet for my paints. Thanks for the idea Brittany! I just need to find some time to make the drive to IKEA. I love the look of everything you’ve done! Bravo!

This room has totally inspired me to do my boys’ rooms! We were all just looking at the post and getting ideas. One part I love is the paper lanterns – so fun! Where did you get the red hanging circle decoration? The one that is not a paper lantern. We all love that! Is it a diy?

Thanks for the inspiration! And my oldest is going to be a teenager in a year and a month. Gah! Not ready for that!

Awww…this reminds me of when I built my daughter a loft bed when she was six. And she just loved it! (she’s 25 now) You did an awesome job on your son’s room. Bet he’ll remember it forever!!
