SNAP! Recap and My Empowerment Talk

Phew, I just made it through the whirlwind two weeks of speaking engagements! First I gave three back-to-back talks at the Southern Ideal Home Show in Raleigh. Then a few days later I hopped a plane to Salt Lake City to give my presentation at SNAP. Remarkably I still have a voice.

The SNAP! Conference is held at Thanksgiving Point just south of Salt Lake City , Utah. I’ve been to Blissdom twice and enjoyed the experience both times. But I have yet to attend a conference that truly made me feel like I belonged (until SNAP!)

A few other power-toting DIY Gals: Me, Cassity from Remodelaholic, Stacy from Not Just a Housewife

With just under 300 attendees, the conference was a lot more intimate feeling. And all the attendees were creative in one way or another. But, what I really liked was the casualness of the schedule and the built in time for connecting with one another. I have vowed to go back next year, because this is one conference I don’t want to miss.

On Saturday, I participated in the Epic DIY Survival Guide presentation with Stacy from Not Just a Housewife and Sausha from Sweet Pickins. Because the talk wasn’t recorded, I went ahead and put together my empowerment slideshow with some narration. This is the first part of any talk that I give from now on. It was crafted to hopefully empower you to take on any project that you want to!

Also be sure to check out Stacy’s video that she kicked off our talk with. Hysterical!!!

In 10 minutes you’ll learn how I became handy and why I believe everyone is handy but they just don’t know it:

I also talked to a lot of people at the conference that had questions about how I do this or that. I want to encourage you to contact me if you ever have a question about starting (or finishing) a particular project. My email ears are always open: PrettyHandyGirl {at} gmail.com.

These are just a few of the extremely creative gals I met in Utah:

From top left: Kim from Today’s Creative Blog, Gina from Shabby Creek Cottage, Amy from Positively Splendid, Shelley from The House of Smiths, Amy from The Idea Room, Karen from The Graphics Fairy, Rhoda from Southern Hospitality, Wendy from The Shabby Nest, Ana White, Beth from Home Stories A to Z, (Ana White again), Lisa from The Pennington Point, Becki from Whippy Cake, Amy, Shelley, Jen from Tatertots and Jello, Traci from Beneath My Heart, Kelli from Nest of Posies, Amy, Kristina from Pearl Gateway, Jen, Emily from Decor Chick, and Mandi from Vintage Revivals

Now that I’m back home, I’m in a bit of a funk. I really miss all those wonderful creative women that came from all over the US to congregate into one spot.

Traci and Me

P.s. Please help me out of my funk and join me in the DIY Talent Parade this week! Link up your most talent projects! I’ll be featuring my favorites next week.

Brittany, I really enjoyed your speech thanks so much for including the video. I think that you hit the nail on the head that a lot of children are not encourage to be independent. I try to incorporate the philosophy of empowering children and including them in DIY throughout my blog. Like you, my parents encouraged all of my brothers and I to get involved in their projects. Not only did we learn some but I feel as an adult I can do things on my own or at least attempt them. My mantra is a lot like yours, I often say “if they could build the Great Wall of China… If they could build the Pyramids, I can do this.” Thanks again for your wonderful video.
