I Spent Black Friday with Miss Mustard Seed
What better way to spend Black Friday than with a kindred spirit? This creative genius; thrift and antique loving blogger was so much fun to hang out with today.
Her name is Marian, but you may know her as the fabulous Miss Mustard Seed. If you haven’t been to her blog, you have been deprived! She has the best tutorials for furniture refinishing and her photos are pure mouth-watering candy for the eyes.When I heard she was in Raleigh for Thanksgiving I asked her if she would like to meet. Little did I know that we would spend the day together along with her sweet mother and mother-in-law.
We had a fun morning wandering through SuzAnna’s Antiques in north Raleigh. I’m embarrassed to say that I’ve lived here for 10 years and never knew about this spot. The owner, Jenny assured me that they’ve only been open a few years, but I will be sure to stop back by her place someday soon.

This is so easy to achieve, and yet the impact of all these white buttons in a jar is stunning.
If kisses were snowflakes, I’d send you a blizzard. I am such a snow-lovin’ southerner (yes, I realize that I’m in the minority!)
You see that cute little angel? Well, she’s not there anymore, she’s in my home now!
While we’re at it, don’t even drool over those Christmas colored pool balls,because, they are MINE!
I bought them and am trying to incorporate them into my Christmas mantle décor.

I built a mini barn door out of wood scraps I had lying around. As usual, the tutorial will come shortly. And then made this wreath using paper stars that I learned how to make here.
Today was a real treat for me, I don’t normally get to hang around with famous bloggers.
A few things I learned about Marian (aka Miss Mustard Seed):
- She likes Panera’s home style macaroni and cheese.
- She IS as sweet as she seems on her blog.
- If she has any spare time (which she rarely does) she will veg out in front of Survivor.
- Show her some vintage scales or ironstone and she is sure to buy them.
- She has no problem parting with the furniture and treasures she finds. I, on the other hand, can’t bear part with mine.
- She will be attending Blissdom 2011 in Nashville, TN (which makes me happy – because, so am I and I can’t wait to see her again!)

I really wanted to reply to your comment via email, but you don't have an email set up and your profile is set up as private. So, I hope you see this comment. I actually did a post on tools, but I should maybe re-post it since it was soooo long ago. If you look at the top of my blog, the link for My Toolbox. I would recommend a compound miter saw if you ever want to use it for moulding, especially crown moulding. That being said, the majority of the time I use my miter saw for straight cuts and about 30% of the time for angled cuts. I have a 10" and it cuts most boards I use. For wider boards I will use a circular saw or my table saw for very long 4' x 8' boards. I hope that helps, and be sure to check out my toolbox link.

I am jealous that you got to meet Marian. Don't put yourself down, you are following in her footsteps. Your posts are inspirational, educational, and very inventive. You have a very nice tone to your blog. I think most people would want to be your friend and hang around with you. I predict great things for you. I was right about MMS and Funky Junk. I think I am going to buy a saw for Christmas. Do I want a chop saw or a miter saw? Why don't you post about what basic tools a woman should have? I keep asking Donna to do one, but she is very busy. Hey! I'm a faithful reader of Miss Mustard Seed's blog (love her creativity and her obvious love of what she does, that is just as inspiring as her creations!) and I found your blog because of her. I'm in Raleigh also… where is SuzAnna's antiques? Is it off Durant Rd? I pass by something near the train tracks all the time but have never stopped in. My neighbor used to have 2 booths at Gresham Lake Antiques but she closed them down, I haven't been there since the new ownership. There's also a cool place off Capital Blvd downtown, I'm blanking on the name… but they have refinished (painted, etc) furniture much like Miss Mustard does, and also a giant area with furniture that has not been finished… you can buy as-is or buy it to do yourself.
I'm always pleased when I learn that bloggers actually find opportunities to meet each other. It looks like you all had a ball! Thank you for sharing the goodies at SuzAnna's Cherry Kay

It looks like you guys had fun. That white plate display looks like Martha doesn't it? That looks like a cool shop you found. I will bet you are anxious to check out her new inventory from season to season. I am loving that barn door you built for over your mantel. I lost my real mantel to my husband's tv(small price to pay for getting my own craft room in the bargain) but I have a fake fireplace in my bedroom so my wheels are turning.
I am truly inspired too! I am just jealous that I didn't get to go to SuzAnna's with you while I was in town. Thanks for the wonderful inspirations..I'm off to try my hand at the origami/kirigami Xmas star wreath.
