I painted my interior front doors Benjamin Moore’s Yellow Highlighter. It’s my way to start my day off on the right foot. When I get up in the morning and head downstairs, I see my front doors and immediately Good Day Sunshine starts to play in my head!

Let me tell you how this happened. Remember when I was in the middle of the DIY project from HELL?! I tried to paint our front doors on the outside and the paint was peeling off. I wanted to curl up in a ball and cry. I wanted to run down the street screaming. Instead, what did I do? I decided to create a cheerful view when I go downstairs every morning. I put stripping the outside of the doors on hold for a day or two and focused my efforts inside.

The solid wood doors are original to our house and had cracks in them.

Instead of replacing the doors, I fixed them by scraping the edges until they were smooth and devoid of bumps.

Then I sanded over the crack to eliminate any other imperfections and give some tooth for the putty to adhere to.

I filled the crack with a strong non-shrinking wood filler.  After the filler dried, I sanded it smooth; wiped off the dust with a damp rag; and applied primer on the puttied area. (Update: 3/18/2017 – After two years the cracks have reappeared. I may try to use paintable caulk this time. Let me know if you know of a permanent way to fix cracks in wood doors.)

The interior of the front doors received two coats of Benjamin Moore Advance paint. The color is Yellow Highlighter and I’m madly in love with it!

Seeing that happy sunny color is a great way to start my day.

And it looks great with my IKEA hacked rustic cabinet! If you haven’t seen what it looked like before, you MUST see the transformation.

What do you think? Would you paint one of your interior doors yellow to brighten your mood?

Hmmm, explains a lot! My doors that I confront going down the stairs are a very deep oxblood. Inside and out! And yes, I painted that! 🙂

Love the yellow doors! I plan to paint the inside of my front door yellow on my mother-in-law suite as soon as it is finished. The outside door needs to conform to my daughter’s house, but the inside is all mine.

WOW, now if that doesn’t wake you up & cheer you up, nothing will, Beautiful Brittany! Everything looks so put together & I love it. Sure I would but I might start with another door first just to get my feet wet.

Thanks Donna. I have a funny story about the rug. I bought it years ago at a little beach boutique. I saw it and had to ask what the price was. I braced myself for the $100 price tag. Instead the owner said, oh I told the consigner to get that thing out of here because I haven’t been able to sell it. I’ll give it to you for $20. Seriously! I was so excited.
