Day 5 Reveal of the Moore Habitat for Humanity House – End of the GMC Hidden Treasure Adventure

And now the moment y’all have been waiting for! The end of our journey and the culmination of all our efforts were revealed to Alexcia, Jaydon & Jurnei Moore on Sunday, August 5th 2012. Alexcia thought she was just getting the keys to her empty home. Little did she know, that GMC, OnStar, Habitat for Humanity and 6 bloggers had conspired to fill her home with furniture, beddings, and home decor.

(Alexcia thinking, “You did what to my house?”)

There were big smiles and lots of tears (happy tears) as she entered her new home.

Living room designed and furnished by me:

I have to admit, I had a very hard time holding back the tears and ended up just crying along with Alexcia. I was never good at keeping a straight face.

Alexcia had her own sofa and coffee table, so the room still looks a little barren.

That is 50 cents worth of a junky old air hose!

I manipulated the hose into the word “hello” on the ground. Then used some thin wire to hold certain sections of the letters. Three volunteers helped hold it on the wall while I nailed long finish nails into the tubing and into a stud. Not all the nails are in studs, but the majority are for security.

An old pillow case helped coordinate this lamp shade with the other blue floral one. I know it isn’t perfect, but I had to work with what I had.

75 cents for the window and $1 for the wreaths (two stacked). Kelli from Restore Interiors fancied up the wreath with book page roses and twine.

At $2, this antique typewriter was a steal! I think Alexcia could put some postcards or photos in between the keys for fun.

Alexcia also had her own bed, but Donna gave her a headboard and new bedding.

A humongous thank you goes to Chris Srock and GMC/OnStar for coordinating and funding this adventure.

I have to tell you that I’ve always been a Honda girl, but after learning about GMC and OnStar and actually driving the Yukon for five days, I will be considering a GMC vehicle when it is time to look at a new car. If you know me personally, you know it takes a lot for me to consider other auto makers. Ask Pretty Handsome Guy!

If you want to help other families like the Moores, donate to Habitat for Humanity. I can’t say enough good things about this organization!

So, if you had the chance, would you take on this kind of adventure?

Disclosure: I was invited by GMC and OnStar (in conjunction with Habitat for Humanity) to join them on an excursion along the World’s Longest Yardsale. All my travel expenses were paid for. This is not a sponsored post, this is simply a post to update you on my experience. I was not told what to write about. All opinions are my own.

    Brittany,

You and all the bloggers who participated, along with GM and Habitat should be SO PROUD of the job you did to make this family’s life better. I am constantly inspired by you. You have achieved a lot of success in the blogging world, and instead of hoarding all that for yourself, you are constantly trying to find ways to reach out and help others. I was impressed with the fund you set up for Colleen and now this! It warms my heart to see that there are still people out there who care about others and want to give back. This turned out amazing and I am certain that this family will never forget the help, the love and the care that was shown by all of you. May God bless you richly for all you do and give back, I don’t know anyone who deserves their success more!

The painting session with Annie Sloan Unfolded was especially fun, as was the ‘Spice-Things-Up’ Session I mentioned earlier.
