Whirlwind Weekend

I’m back! But, I’m not quite 100% back on EST. I’m finding out that jet lag plus a time change are a toxic combination. A combo that even two cups of coffee and a nap couldn’t fix today. I seriously could lay down on that beautiful bed of grass above and sleep for a week.

Here is a quick recap of this past weekend:

I flew into Portland Thursday afternoon and met Sandra & Gail at the airport. Breanna picked us all up and took us to the Portland City Grill, where we had a panoramic view of the city from the 30th floor! Kudos to Breanna for being our guide to her gorgeous city and for entertaining us for a few hours. She even brought craft supplies for an impromptu crafting session!

Gail: My Repurposed Life; Sandra: Sawdust and Paper Scraps; Breanna: Dollar Store Mom; & Me

Then it was off to the hotel to meet the rest of the Pennington Blogger Crew:

Back Row Left to Right: Gina: The Shabby Creek Cottage; Kenny: Veggie Gardening Tips; Gail: My Repurposed Life; Me; Doug: Hoosier Homemade; JB: Building Moxie; Brian: Handy Guys Podcasts

Front Row Left to Right: Sandra: Sawdust and Paper Scraps; Timothy: Charles and Hudson; Chris: ManMadeDIY

We hit the sack early because the next morning we were whisked off to Pennington Seed!

You won’t believe how much science goes into each seed that they sell. I can’t wait to share with you what we learned.

We learned about all the different types of grasses and what makes them unique.

We learned how to plant grass seeds for optimum success.

We learned about the cutting edge research that NexGen is doing to produce super species of grass.

And we learned about protecting plants and grasses the way nature intended. (Hint: Ladybug = good bug!)

We learned how to read the labels on grass seed bags.

We learned about the process that grass seed goes through from the fields to your local Home Depot or other home improvement stores. (You can find a retailer nearest you by clicking on the store locator in the upper right corner on the PenningtonSeed.com site.)

But, most of all we learned about the passion that the Pennington Seed employees have for their company, their grass seed, and for creating grass that requires less water, less fertilizer and less pesticides. I was really excited to learn that they don’t just care about profits, they honestly care about the environment.

After a long day at Pennington, I hopped a plane to San Jose, CA to see two very special girls:

My sweet nieces! (C: age 5 and O: age 6 mos.) and my sister and her husband!

I have lots to share with you about what I learned at Pennington. You’ll want to stay tuned for this! But, first, I need a little more rest to get back on track.

See y’all later this week. {thunk} That was the sound of my head hitting the pillow.

P.s. If you follow me on Twitter or Facebook, you may have seen that my little guy had to be hospitalized while I was away. After a week long stomach bug, he was severely dehydrated (and lost 4 lbs!) After an IV and an overnight stay, he was released and is feeling better now. I’m so relieved that I have a very competent hubby. Pretty Handsome Guy handled all the emergencies and even found time to make cupcakes while I was away! I’m a lucky gal to have him.
