I am going to paint a door. It’s a manufactured door that I bought at an outlet for all odd size doors, windows, etc. It is very heavy with an oval decorated glass in the middle. It is white now and looks grainy. I wanted the door to be shiny instead of flat . The paint is Benjamin Moore Advance waterborne alkyd high gloss enamel. Should I use a roller or brush for the best result? Also, what kind of roller or brush? Thanks so much

I’ve been looking in DIY websites and magazines and so much more to see how I can possibly repair peeling paint and cracks from a very old house made of cinder block and then what on top.. cement? I know the paint has to be scraped and then painted over but it is not as simple as if the walls were made of drywall. All DIY paint jobs of walls I can find are of drywall and not cinder block like what I have. The paint does not go on smoothly and needs some sort of spackle to blend the cracks into the rest of the wall. If I don’t do it right the paint will crack right away. I see others painting their homes so easily. My home is one of the oldest in my city in TX. Mine was made way before 1978! Way way before then! I cannot afford to hire a painter and I really want to do this myself. There are so many home projects I want to do myself but I can’t find any good DIY instructions. I wish I could get in touch with you for suggestions. I’m a very hands on girl myself and I’m aching and dying to learn to do all this stuff! 🙂

Kittyanonymous, it sounds like you need to use a primer made for brick or concrete first. Try checking in at your local Sherwin Williams, Duron or Benjamin Moore retailer and see what they recommend. Good luck to you. I hope you’ll send me some before and after pictures!
