Happy Easter!

Once again, you amazing Waterlogue artists have amazed me. And again, I was tasked with narrowing down my 100+ favorites this week to 20. Perhaps it is from Spring in the air or Easter, but I was definitely drawn to some seasonal beauties.

Well, it’s been a while since I installed the Lutron Maestro Occupancy Sensor in our Art & Craft Studio (+ toy room, train room, general overload of stuff room.) And I can honestly say that I LOVE IT! I changed the timer to keep the lights on for 30 minutes after sensing motion (because we have a long room and I wasn’t sure that the sensor would see me across the room.) So far,  it hasn’t shut off on me yet. But, it has turned itself off many times after the kids have been playing and vacated the room.

I’ve also tried to sneak in the room several times to see if Maestro will miss me. And he doesn’t, he catches me from about 10 feet away! See:

But, here’s the best part. No more lights left on and energy wasted.

Pretty Handy Girl Recommended Books Giveaway
Okay, let’s get this out upfront. THIS IS NOT A DIY POST. There, I said it. So, if you want a tutorial, come back tomorrow.

Now, the rest of you who like to read, I know you like to read because you stuck around. And if you follow my blog, I know you like to read and DIY! Which is why I know you’ll love Ladies’ Night by Mary Kay Andrews!

Ladies' Night by Mary Kay Andrews

What really made this book all the more enjoyable is that the main character, Grace, is a blogger and she loves to remodel homes!

Pretty Handy Girl Recommended Books Giveaway

This book is full of laugh out loud moments as jilted Grace Stanton recovers and bounces back after she catches her husband with her assistant. Ladies’ Night is filled with juicy nuggets of revenge. A shirtless and attractive guy. And a crew of divorcees who bring the hilarity to a weekly Anger management class.

I highly recommend Ladies’ Night as a fun read that will keep you laughing and take the weight off your day. After I finished the book, my Mom snatched it up and couldn’t put it down either (fun for all ages!)

The second book I’m recommending is Necessary Lies by Diane Chamberlain.

Necessary Lies by Diane Chamberlain

Where Ladies’ Night is light and fun. Necessary Lives spins the amazing tales of several women affected by the forced sterilization practices in rural North Carolina. Based on true stories (but told through fictional characters), Necessary Lies will takes you into the seemingly simple life of a rural farm in North Carolina.

You’ll walk in Ivy Hart’s shoes as a young teenager falling in love with a boy who is not “in her class.” And you’ll work alongside Jane Forrester as she struggles to help and do what she thinks is right for her clients including Ivy Hart and her sister Mary Ella.

Your beliefs and understanding of the forced sterilization program will be changed forever. I promise. A must read and a true page turner.  Check out Diane’s site for more ordering information!

How_to_Install_Lutron_Maestro_Sensor

Teaching kids to turn off the lights in a room they are no longer in is a tough job. No matter how many times I try to explain that leaving the lights on wastes electricity, it just doesn’t seem to sink in. In their defense, they are like little wind up tops flitting from room to room playing with trains in one; reading in another and barely stopping to use the toilet in the bathroom (putting the lid down is a whole other issue! Ugh.)

When Lutron approached me about giving my kids a helping hand with the lights, I was immediately intrigued. It turns out that Lutron has just introduced the Maestro occupancy sensor dimmer that can be easily installed in place of an existing light switch. (Single pole switches are easiest. Dual or Multi-location switches may require a little more wiring and programming to work properly.) After some thought, I decided to try the Maestro in our art & craft studio. This is the room that we least notice when the bulbs are burning (it is over the garage and is separated by our guest room from the rest of the house.)

Follow along to see how to install your own. Your attentive nature may be rewarded at the end. 😉 Read more
