Introducing Our Newest Contributor – Lara from The Unprofessional

I’m so excited to introduce you to our newest talented contributor, Lara from The Unprofessional. She says she’s no expert, but you’d never know it by looking at her renovations and DIY projects!

Lara has been correcting a multitude of sloppy work the ~~jerks~~ folks who flipped her 1940’s cape cod left behind. She’s customizing her home, room by room and making her house safe and functional for her family.

One of Lara’s recent projects was hanging a wall-mount sink in their attic bathroom. Not only will you love Lara’s tutorial, but you’ll be especially charmed after meeting her trusty sidekick (aka her three year old son) who acts as her advisor and personal assistant.

I love that Lara is learning as she DIYs in her home. We can all relate to learning on the fly. She’s made a few screw ups during the learning curve, but she’ll never let it stop her. Lara’s motto is: “I believe you can do pretty much anything with a few good tools, a stack of wood, and a half-baked idea.”

For example, when her 3-year-old son complained that he couldn’t reach the picnic table, she designed an easy-to-build folding booster seat perfect for camping trips and beer gardens. This idea is genius and I think she needs to patent the idea.

When the low ceilings in her cape cod wouldn’t accommodate a bulky barn door, she found an alternative approach to turning any interior door into a space-saving barn door.

Finally, Lara hacked her son’s IKEA bed into a super modern headboard. I love this project and might be copying it in my house.

Welcome Diane and Dean to the Team

It’s a new year and we have more new talent joining the Pretty Handy Girl team. Today I am excited to welcome this DIY Duo: Diane and Dean.

They are the talent behind (surprisingly) Dianeanddean.com, a DIY Home and Garden Blog. When I said talent, I meant they are both incredibly talented and bring a variety of skills with them.

Dean is a Landscape Architect, Sustainability Director, Master Gardener, Public Speaker, and former DIY Network co-host for Grounds For Improvement. Diane is a writer, Certified Health Coach, Calligrapher, and she also has a Florida Real Estate license. They believe in helping people realize they don’t have to be millionaires to make their home a sanctuary. Diane and Dean will help provide knowledge and you provide the effort to make your home improvement dreams come true.

Want to be wowed by some of their “talented” projects? Check out this DIY Pottery Barn Inspired Farmhouse Table they built. It’s beautiful!

On the other end of the size scale, take a look at these fun DIY Cement Succulent Planters they created. I’m headed to Lowe’s right now to buy some cement to make my own.

I don’t know about you, but I’m excited to have a Landscape Architect and a licensed Real Estate agent joining us! They’ll be back tomorrow with a project sure to bring the outdoors inside during this cold weather.

Welcome Julie from Love My Simple Home

I’m super excited to introduce another talented DIY educator who will be bringing us some fantastic upcycling projects, beautiful home decor ideas, and all around amazing ideas for making your home gorgeous on the cheap.

Please join me in welcoming Julie from Love My Simple Home. She is an incredibly creative person who shares a variety of quick, simple, and original repurposing tutorials for your home. For example, she created an excellent tutorial for making your own driftwood sailboat.

She also has a passion for interior design and sharing affordable and creative home decor ideas. Some of her favorite projects are furniture painting and occasionally a whole room makeover (like this beautiful coastal living room she recently completed.)

Oh and did I mention she can whip up some scrumptious treats? You have to make these mouth-watering Jammy Sugar Cookies to appreciate her baking skills.

When she’s not creating or blogging, you can find Julie shopping garage sales, thrift stores, and hauling something off the side of the road. Who can relate to those adventures? One of her favorite roadside finds is this Night Table in her Guest Bedroom.

But, her favorite repurpose tutorial is a DIY Tin Can Vase. I know you’d easily pay $20 for that at Magnolia Market, right?

Introducing Our Newest Contributor – Sarah from The Created Home

I’m so excited to introduce you to the newest talented contributor, Sarah from The Created Home. Her DIY blog focuses on woodworking and anything that needs doing around her home.

Sarah has amassed a wealth of knowledge from renovating her home with her husband, Eric.

What started with her asking him to teach her how to use a miter saw blossomed into her own DIY workshop and a love of woodworking that started her own business. She has a passion for salvaging old material and creating furniture for her home, like this DIY Printmaker’s Coffee Table.

Sarah has two toddlers that keep her busy, but they also serve as a source for her creativity. Like this cabin themed playroom that needs an award for most creative kids’ playroom EVER!

Sarah lives in the beautiful Pacific Northwest, which allows her to want to spend as much time outdoors as possible. And who wouldn’t if you built your own frugal pergola like Sarah did.
