A Little Love Affair

Today I have a little love story to share with you. I fell in love with my husband many, many years ago! Back then, this was us:

Go ahead, get your laughs in now!

He looked like Axl Rose to me, and that’s all it took to make my perm and hairspray lovin’ heart to go pitter patter. If you told me that one day I would marry this guy and have two boys, I might have believed you in a puppy love kind of way. But, never in a million years could I have realized how leaving one rose on his windshield would lead to the wonderful life and family we have together. We will be celebrating our sixteenth wedding anniversary (and 24 years dating) this weekend. Believe me, those numbers are as shocking to me as they are to you.

But, I wouldn’t be totally truthful if I didn’t tell you that my heart strays occasionally. It happens more than I like to admit. This is my affair:

But luckily Pretty Handsome Guy is a very understanding guy. He’s willing to share me. Because, seriously, I could spend all day at Lowe’s Home Improvement. I like to wander the aisles caressing the nuts and bolts (okay that was not supposed to sound dirty!) And the power tools, well let’s not go there…

Sometimes I even bring the kids along! Gasp! Yes, they partake in this little affair of mine:

In fact they love Lowe’s so much that they immediately look on the announcements board at the store to see what the next Build and Grow workshop will be and when.

Last week my secret affection confirmed that it likes me too. Awwwwww! And now I’m excited to share with you that I will be working on some projects for Lowe’s as a Lowe’s Creative Ideas Blogger:

This may sound like a match made in heaven (and believe me, my heart says ’tis true.) But, another reason I agreed to this “fling”, is that it will allow me to complete some projects that you will be able to create as well. Oftentimes when I transform something I found on the side of the road (or bought from the Habitat ReStore, thrift stores or Craig’s List), I’ve felt a little guilty that you may not be lucky enough to find the same “steals”. But now, because I will be using products from Lowe’s, you can be 99% assured that you will be able to find the same materials and follow my tutorials to yield the same results! Yeah!

So, now if you’ll excuse me, I’ve got some relationship building to do. I’m busy bonding with this lovely:

Can you tell what I’m creating?! Stay tuned to find out.

Disclosure: As a Lowe’s Creative Ideas Creator I will be provided with Lowe’s gift cards to purchase the materials for each project. Lowe’s will not tell me what projects to create, how much to spend or what to write. You can be assured that the projects will still be uniquely mine and I will try to be the same old goofy Pretty Handy Girl ;-).

  1. Happy anniversary! Wow 24 years together but only 16 married. I thought my hubby made me wait a long time but you got me beat. We’ve been together for 36 years…we’ll be celebrating our 30 wedding anniversary in June.

Congrats on the Lowes Creative Ideas thing too. Love Lowes also but I’m not half as creative as you.

  2. Happy Anniversary!

Congrats on the Lowe’s sponsorship! How exciting. I can’t wait to see what the teaser pic really is.

  3. Congrats on both counts, Brittany! You are the perfect match for the Lowe’s Creative team. They (and Pretty Handsome Guy) are lucky to have you!

  4. Brittany, you guys are too cute! What a sweet picture and long time to be together – my hubby and I have been together for 21 years, married 18 years :) Congrats on getting a deal with Lowes!! Super awesome…now maybe you can help me hook The Container Store! Ha, ha!

  5. Loved the picture!! Happy Anniversary. I must say you two have “matured” beautifully. Lowe’s has chosen wisely and I can’t wait to see what wonderful things you make.

  6. Congratulations on 24 years together! That’s wonderful! And now your “other” love has finally returned the love – how awesome is THAT? :)) Congrats! And my guess is a mailbox . . .

  7. Congratulations and Happy Anniversary. If you have to have an affair with someone/thing, I couldn’t think of a better one to have one with than Lowes. Mine is with the craft store. I agree with a mailbox os what you’re working on. Although it might make a nice bread box, I think it is a little too tall for that.

  8. Happy Anniversary!!! Hubby and I have been married for 31 years and together for 36. I think the years you spend together before you get married help to make a relationship stronger because you really get to know each other.
It’s a MAILBOX!!! …Or is it a planter??? Gosh, I was so sure, but now I’m wondering! ha ha!
Isn’t it fun to be able to do the thing you love and call it your job???

  9. How lucky we are to have special guys who are willing to “share” us!! Mine says he is glad I am not dragging him to clothing stores or Pier One… He’ll let me drag him to Lowe’s or Home Depot any day!

  10. congrats on your anniversary and your exciting partnership with lowes! too too awesome! xo

  11. Congrats!! :) I know how happy you are about this one! :)

  12. Great post!!! It is so awesome when you have a guy that lets you do what you love to do!!!
