While I was out…sick. I holed myself up in our bedroom for several days. I honestly have not been this sick for as long as I can remember.
This was my sick station. Complete with all the sick bed accoutrements:

1. Tissues, lots and lots of tissues
2. Note cards to write thank you notes from my birthday (good intentions, but I never felt up to it.)
3. TV Remote to watch lots and lots of HGTV
4.1 iPad – I have to say this was my best friend the last few days. I read my book on the Kindle app, checked email and tweeted a little.
4.2 Bluetooth keyboard for iPad
5. iPhone
6. Heating pad for painful ear and face
Today I decided I needed to get up because my head and body were screaming for release from the bed. So, I got up, took a shower, and put this on for the first time in days.(Yes, I really need a new watch to replace this old cracked and scratched one.)
Then I took one look at the bed and knew I couldn’t sleep another minute on those germ covered sheets. I balled them up and seriously considered torching them (like they did during the Scarlet Fever outbreaks). But, I convinced myself hot water and detergent would suffice. I did throw open the windows and turned the ceiling fan on high.
Next I went over to my vanity and sadly had to dump any cosmetics that could have come in contact with my infected eye up to 2 days before I had symptoms (per the doctors orders.) It really hurt to throw away my favorite eye shadow set. I’m not even sure I can replace it because they were bought as some promotional item. I seriously feel sick in the gut just thinking about the cost to replace all this makeup. Ooof.
Then I slowly cracked the door of the bedroom afraid of what lay beyond. My boys had been really good and had let me be for most of the past few days. But, as any mother knows, the quiet times are when they are getting into trouble. I spied the laundry piled high. No surprise there.
Stuffed animals were strewn in the hallway, but someone had kindly cleared a path. Buddy was my constant companion the whole time I was sick. He only left my side to eat and go outside.
The boys’ bedrooms were messy, but not disaster zones.
Empty food wrappers were found in my oldest’s bedroom. At least he didn’t starve, right?!
More empty food containers were found in the freezer.
I’m so grateful that my boys are getting to the self-sufficient stage. At almost 5 and 7, we really pushed them this week to take care of themselves while I was sick.
I was up for a while today but am still feeling pretty cruddy and had to lay back down for a nap. I still haven’t unpacked my suitcase from my surprise visit to California. It might have to wait another day.
Hopefully I’ll be closer to normal in a few days and will have some new tutorials for you. Thank you for your patience and I hope y’all are staying healthy and well.
Update: I actually unpacked my suitcase this morning. But, now I’m too tired to hang up the skirts. Sheesh.

Blech! Being sick is the worst. I’m glad your boys behaved. Feel all the way better soon!
Thanks Phoe. I hope so, I’m sick of being sick!
I hope you feel better soon! Looks like your boys are definitely growing up…I’m a few years from that stage with my boys who are 21 months and almost 4.
Well, good news is that your oldest is almost as old as my youngest. So, you can start letting him help himself. We moved all the kids dishes to a lower cabinet.
Thanks for the get well wishes.
All in all, your house doesn’t look too bad really. Mine looks like that everyday. Hope you feel better soon!

aww I’m glad you’re able to get up out of bed now!! I HATE that “getting back to reality”…cleaning up after the kids…laundry…ugh! Hope it goes by quickly
Bless your heart… hope you feel better soon.
Now you need to eat a lot of chocolate, because chocolate has a lot of magnesium, very difficult to find in other food, and magnesium helps your body to health. E si non e vero, e ben trobatto… Get well soon!
Wow, that is some advice I can get behind. I love chocolate! Thanks for the get well wishes.
hope you are back to 100% soon! Don’t worry about messes, they’ll wait for you!
Ha, ha. Great, that is what I’m afraid of. No housekeeping fairies in this house!
Nothing like being sick with kids in the house. I feel your pain on the makeup – now I use disposable eye applicators. It keeps everything clean and they’re inexpensive. Get well soon!
Raegan,
Thanks for your get well wishes. I might just switch to disposable. I honestly haven’t had pink eye since I was a kid. So, I never thought about contaminating my own makeup.
Hope you feeling better soon!
Sorr to hear about the make-up. That would’ve been painful for me too! Don’t worry about the mess…it will be there when you feel better.
Sandi,
Thanks for the well wishes. I guess I can look at the bright side. I know exactly what makeup I do use on a regular basis. And I can clean out all the shades I don’t use. Right?!
So sorry you are still feeling bad. Hope you recover soon!
Thanks Colleen. Me too!
I’m glad you’re feeling a little better, but don’t push yourself. Sometimes you just need that extra time ~ even though you think you’re better ~ to really get your strength back. Try to take it easy and regain your stamina.
I know, but it is soooo hard for me to be unproductive. Just not in my nature. I’ve been trying. I did take a nap today.
Poor dear… hope you’re feeling better soon.
Every time I fly I come down with a sinus infection. You’d think they’d hand out masks!
I really don’t do well flying. I think it is because I’m always a little congested from allergies. Then my ears take forever to clear!
I hate being sick! i still try to do all the things i think i need to do, then realize, I just need sleep! Sorry about your make up…I could send you some coupons…?
Thanks Ruth. I have a big stash of coupons. I’ll try to do some match ups before I go shopping for new ones.
Brittany…sorry you have been so sick. I know exactly how you feel. I did a post on mine too:

My kids were amazing, as well. I’m so glad I taught them to do stuff because when I was sick they were on their own, too! I hope you are able to replace your make-up for a good price or maybe find some better stuff
Have a happy day…now that you’re up!

Thanks Becky. So glad your kids were uber helpful for you
. Maybe in a few years my boys will be more than self-sufficient.
So sorry you’ve been sick! I think it sounds like your boys did a great job for their age! You should be proud of them. They deserve a reward when you are well. Feel better soon!
Poor thing! I always feel better after a shower too. Hope you get to feeling better quick!
Megan, thanks girl. I hope so too. Showers are my savior. But, I’m just not kicking this illness fast enough.
I hope you feel better soon! What sweet boys you have to let mommy get well. Did they play a ton of video games? lol
Kathryn, Thanks.
They actually entertained themselves by making forts, playing matchbox cars, and having a party with their numerous stuffed animals. I did allow them to play Wii one afternoon because I knew they needed to burn some energy. But, normally I don’t encourage the video games or TV.
Glad to hear you’re feeling better, Brittany! I always dread getting on an airplane because that seems to be the ONLY time I ever get sick … good thing I can’t afford to travel any time soon!! My girls are exactly one year behind yours (4 & 6) and it is encouraging to hear you say how your boys are starting to become a little self-sufficient – I can’t wait! I’m sending you good vibes with hopes that you’ll be back at your projects real soon…… <3
So sorry to hear you’ve been sick.
Praying you are completely whole and well again really, really soon!!!
Aww, feel better soon! You brought back memories with the house tour. I used to get migraines and be down 3 days. When I finally walked among the living again I’d want to go back to bed after seeing what 3 boys could do. Except my middle son. Even at 10 he was a cleaner. Still is to this day. The other 2? I’ve given up hope!
Take care.
Glad you’re feeling somewhat better….nothing worse than being sick with an ear infection….I’ve had those bad boys for years and I’m no spring chicken, so I can only imagine how painful the little tots must feel when they have an ear infection….Take care
Glad you’re feeling better. Your little ones did very well. It’s not really that messy. Good training Mom. I don’t fly very often but I’ve been told that taking vitamin C and drinking plenty of fluids before a flight may help prevent illnesses and sinus problems.
Glad your’re feeling better! And yay for self-sufficient kids! Ours can now watch tv and eat breakfast by themselves on Sat mornings!!!
Thank goodness for self sufficient kids. Although, I have to say, we’ve had a little backlash to this. Our sons are now helping themselves to the “higher sugar” foods whenever they want and storing the evidence in the corners of their closets. Yikes!
